EcoLiving 101 Potential Annual Savings
Many of the personal actions covered in EcoLiving 101 were profiled in the P.E.I. Eco-Home Project, a project that was
delivered in Charlottetown and Stratford during the fall of 2006 and winter/spring of 2007 to help residents reduce their environmental
impact. The following table summarizes identified annual savings for some of the P.E.I. Eco-Home participants.
The average participant identified actions that would save $346 per year. At a 10 percent rate of increase in energy
prices, this would amount to a total savings of $2,112 over 5 years.
Registrants in EcoLiving 101 will have the same opportunity to realize similar annual savings.
As a matter of interest,
the cost of a kilowatt-hour of electricity has risen 45.8 percent over the last two years - in August 2006, it cost 10.39
cents, and in August of 2008, it cost 15.15 cents.
